Earlier in 2011, Robert McLeod Construction purchased what is likely the premier apartment building in the Strathcona District of Edmonton. Renamed as “Layers”, this is a small, boutique apartment building with seven units in total. Initially, operating Layer’s was much like any of our other buildings. There was a number of capital improvements to be made, renters reconfirmed, and similar learning opportunities. Once this was complete, we assumed it would be “business as normal”. No such chance. In December, we were contacted by a motion picture studio, looking for a shooting location for the new made for TV movie: “I Think I Do”. The producers provided us with this description:

“I Think I Do is a romantic-relationship comedy about commitment, cold feet, the endurance of true love, the importance of family ties and the hard lesson learned that, try as we may, life simply does not go as planned. Julia and Jim have been together for as long as either can remember. While Julia is frantically planning every detail of their wedding to a “T”, she somehow fails to recognize Jim’s growing uncertainty.”

The studio had heard about our Layer’s building, and after a quick inspection, they confirmed the penthouse unit was the ideal shooting location. As the previous tenant had moved out, and the new one wasn’t due until February 1st, the unit was vacant for January. Working at breakneck speed, the studio managed to complete shooting on January 26th, 2012.

So, the next time you turn on the TV-check the movie listings-for “I Think I Do”, and we’ll be seeing you-in the movies!
